Nervy Herbie go through
*
Herbie clung on nervously to win this seven goal thriller against spirited Solva . In the opening few minutes it was the underdogs Solva who came closest to opening the scoring with a rebound from a Luke Jones shot finding Solva’s Charlie Simes who also hit the post before Herbrandston scrambled the ball to safety. Herbie finally broke the deadlock in the 30th minute. Solva’s defence found themselves exposed at the back and Herbie pounced, Mark Jones’ excellent finish giving Herbie the lead. However, the visitors had much of the ball in the opening half as Herbie failed to gain any momentum and hold onto possession. In the 40th minute, a foul on Solva’s Alistar Davies resulted in a yellow card for Adrian Rees and a dangerous free kick for Solva from 25 yards. Chris Cousens stepped up, his free kick finding Solva’s Chris Isles in the box who’s header found the net as half time approached. Herbrandston produced some quality football in the second half and were rewarded with three goals in the opening 20 minutes. The first came from an excellent corner kick from Mike Turpin which found Alex Galdo, whose header gave Herbie the lead once again. Two good saves in succession by Solva keeper Chris Davies from strikes by Nicky Woodrow was then followed by a Herbie corner. Taken again by Turpin this time it was Solva’s Chris Cousens who found himself connecting with the ball before watching it slide agonisingly into his own goal. In an excellent opening 20 minutes for Herbie in which they dominated, striker Nicky Woodrow got his name on the score sheet to put them 4-1 up. But it was a nervy final ten minutes for Herbie as Solva’s striker Luke Jones found the net twice in five minutes to bring the lead down to just a single goal. But Herbie held on in the closing minutes and deserved to go through after a brilliant 20 minute spell in the second half resulted in a final score of Herbrandston 4 Solva 3.
